To instill in our children and youth the skills, passion, knowledge, and creativity necessary to grow as an artist and human.
To provide adult artists (novice and experienced) with access to quality training in acting, playwriting, and directing.
Education is an integral part of Soul Rep’s mission. The company is comprised of certified theater professionals and provide numerous educational programs throughout the community. This includes quality, low-cost acting classes for youth and adults, children’s tour shows, and short/long-term residencies at local schools and community centers.
During the pandemic, Soul Rep established a new, comprehensive arts education program for youth inspired by Augusto Boal’s “Theatre of the Oppressed.” This new, curriculum based youth program has been piloted and fully launched at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. The goal of this program is to cultivate activist student theatre that empowers youth to utilize the craft as a platform for their artistic voice and social justice.
Liberation Laboratory underscores Soul Rep’s vision, its mission, and its underpinning philosophy — strengthening its ties to the community.
