Based on Virginia Hamilton’s Award Winning Children's Book

February 8, 2017

Performances for SCHOOLS only at Dallas Center Performance Hall

Adapted and Directed by Tonya Davis Holloway
Original Music by Christopher Mazen

Virginia Hamilton’s brilliant book comes to life in this adaptation of her collection of colorful, rich, and beautiful African American folk, fairy, and even frightening tales, featuring strong, witty female characters.  Soul Rep originated this play in 1998 and is excited to remount Holloway’s new, award winning adaptation. Witness a little girl outsmart “Buh Rabby” and the Devil, shake your head at the problems between sisters in “Good Blanche, Bad Rose and the Talking Eggs”, laugh out loud when “Miz Hattie Gets Some Company”, and be shocked by the story of Catskinella, an albino she-vampire! Presented in partnership with Scholastic, this adaptation was performed earlier this year in Germany.
